5 Things You Need to Know Before Going to Baking School

Thinking about signing up for baking school? Following your passion can change your life, but there are a few things you need to know before you go.

Read on to learn what you should know before you sign on the dotted line.

What You Need to Know Before Baking School

While baking school is rewarding and fun, it can also be a trying experience. You can expect it to test you both physically and emotionally, and you'll need to be prepared.

Here's what you need to know:

1. It's Intense

Everything about a professional kitchen is 100 times more intense compared to your kitchen at home. Space is tighter, stoves are hotter, knives are sharper and everything goes faster.

You may find simple things like turning on a stove more difficult, but you need to be able to figure out how everything works quickly.

2. It Will Take Over Your Life

If you're thinking "cooking and baking already take over my life," baking school is different. While you may spend all your free time reading cook books now, you'll be completely immersed in your passion once you're at school.

And the best part? You'll be surrounded by like-minded people who also love to cook, love to talk about cooking and, of course, love to learn about cooking.

3. You Need to be Passionate

As you can probably tell from the above two points, you need to be committed to the industry if you're planning to attend baking school.

When you really love what you're doing, the late nights, long hours, critiques, burnt fingers and stress are all worth it.

If you've always been passionate about cooking and food, choosing to enroll in a Pastry Arts Degree will give you the knowledge you need to be successful. You just need to bring the enthusiasm and commitment

4. It Will Give You Options

Most people enter the industry planning to become a chef. But even if you later decide that you no longer want to be a chef, earning a degree will give you plenty of options.

You can begin your career in many different areas, including fine dining restaurants, hotels, resorts, health care facilities, bars and more.

Want to write a book? Start a food blog? Maybe you've always wanted to break into food writing or reviewing. You may decide to go into catering, start a YouTube channel or just become a much better cook. Whatever you choose, a culinary degree can help you get there.

5. You Can Do It

Enrolling in baking school is a big decision. And it's normal to have concerns about the financial, emotional and logistical aspects.

But if you're ready to improve your career prospects, increase your earning potential and enjoy a career you can take almost anywhere, you can make it happen.

With a little self-belief and determination, you'll thrive at baking school. You'll also enter the workforce with the knowledge and experience you need in order to stand out.
